Cathay Pacific Airways has been named Cargo Airline of the Year at the 49th annual Air Transport World (ATW) Airline Industry Achievement Awards. The prize will be handed over at a gala dinner ahead of the 2023 IATA Annual General Meeting, all scheduled to be held in Istanbul in June.

‘ATW is a long-standing and highly creditable media brand read by commercial air transport industry leaders across the globe,’ said Director Cargo Tom Owen. ‘The awards are voted for by a panel of industry experts which recognises those businesses that have excelled across a broad range of airline operations over the past year.’

The judging carried out by editors and analysts representing ATW, Routes, Aviation Week and CAPA. Speaking about this year’s winners, ATW Editor-in-Chief Karen Walker said: ‘The final selections illustrate the strength of the market recovery across the air transport industry, and it is particularly heartening to see that also reflected among airlines in the Asia-Pacific region.’

Cathay Cargo was cited for continuing to grow, innovate and adapt through some of the most challenging COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. During this time, the carrier revamped its Priority solution; continued to digitise processes and services, including the launch of its digital booking platform Click & Ship; extended the Fly Greener initiative to cargo shipments; and opened its dedicated Pharma Handling Centre at its Hong Kong hub.

‘We are honoured to be recognised by our industry peers with this major award,’ added Owen. ‘It reflects the progressiveness and can-do spirit of our cargo teams around the world in responding to the needs of our customers and delivering operational excellence.’

‘I want to congratulate all of them, including our pilots, engineers and all the other supporting teams which move us forward in our vision of becoming the world’s most customer-centric air cargo service brand.’

Sustainability first: Cathay Cargo’s Fly Greener initiative includes an emissions calculator.

Following on from introducing its Corporate SAF Programme, Emissions Calculator and revamped Fly Greener Carbon-offset Programme, Cathay Cargo has been nominated for three awards – Most Sustainable Cargo Airline, Asia; Middle East and overall – at the Freightweek Sustainability Awards 2023.
